The Vet

This is Jade

She is 13. Yes I know that’s old but besides some hearing loss (mostly when it’s convinient for her) and laying around all the time she’s been really healthy. Actually she’s been really healthy most of her life.

She came in from being outside and a little while later kept scratching at her mouth and licking and making weird noises. I looked at her, Jared looked at her and we couldn’t see anything but old lady teeth and red gums. So I google doctored her and was sure she had late stage periodontal disease that was spreading to her heart and that we were going to have to put her down. I spent the night worrying, crying, wondering how I’d tell the boys, if they should come… (and I’m not the one who normally worries)

I took her to the vet first thing in the morning

I should also mention that she hasn’t been to the vet since 2002. So I just knew that they’d give me a lecture about being the worst dog mom on earth, heart worm, vaccinations, teeth brushing etc etc

He came in asked how she was doing looked at her gums and asked how active she was. I told him that she pretty much just layed around, will pick up a toy now and then but usually doesn’t do much. He asked to take her back real quick. And literally came back 10 seconds later with this

This was stuck horizontally in the roof of her mouth far enough back that both Jared and I missed it. She came back completely normal. I didn’t get a lecture and no more questions were asked. We got home and she skipped in grabbed a slipper and bounded to her bed. Seriously dog?

I told Jared now that she’s not dead she’s in big trouble. He asked what I’m going to do when it’s really time. I’m not sure. Obviously I’ll be really upset. I haven’t gone through anything like that. I’ve had her for 13 years since I was 16. The boys haven’t known a world without her in it. I’m hoping she lives a lot, lot longer.

My doggy

He loves her. We started giving her Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements and he alone makes sure she gets her pill twice a day.  I love our furry family members.
