Disclosure: This post is part of a paid campaign with American Crafts, but all opinions are my own.
If you’ve ever been to my site or know me you know I LOVE Project Life. It is such a fun and meaningful way to scrapbook and the best part is that anyone can do it. You don’t need adhesive, scissors or fancy equipment just a kit and your photos and you’re good to go! Obviously you can add the fun stuff in if you want but it’s not necessary. That’s what makes it so great.
The purpose? To document your life. And let me tell you, if you don’t know already, your family will love you for it. My boys absolutely LOVE browsing through a year in our lives. Bits and pieces, photos, funny quotes, receipts (which will be REALLY fun in another 20 years or so) kid art etc. It’s literally your life in little slots all displayed together in one place. What’s not to love?!
Everyone that sees mine in person wants to start on their own. I’ve got a great way for you to do that!
Starting August 5th HSN will be running a special sale on several Project Life bundles. You will have the opportunity to purchase a kit with the Cinnamon, Rain or Kraft core kits or a mini bundle with the Holiday and Seasons Mini Editions.

Last time the sales were pretty awesome so no doubt this one won’t be any different! The bundles are going to be offered at a price you won’t be able to beat! Tune in to HSN or check their website on August 5th for the pricing!
What are you eyeing?!
The fun has started! Studio Calico just kicked off the NSD fun on their blog!
There are 9 total challenges with examples for Scrapbooking, Card, and Project Life for all of them! Check out the blog post for info on how to participate and how to win the grand $100 prize!
I took on the challenge of mixed media and I made 3 different cards showcasing it on this PL spread!
Week 14 Card: I placed thickers on a blank 4x6 grid card and painted over with watercolor on a small brush - super easy and fun!
Excellence Card: To create the ombre effect I loaded up the water color paint and applied it several times to the bottom of the card slowly blending it up with more water. As I got to the top all that was on my brush was water. Once it dried completely I printed over it with my quote!
Love Lives Here Card: I painted a base of gesso over a printed PL card. Once the gesso was semi-dry I applied some water color on top of that. Once dry I layered it up with a cut file!
Now your turn to give it a try! It’s easy and fun I promise! I used the Artist’s Loft watercolor set from Michaels
I hope you are ready for lots of updates from me over the next couple of days - it’s NSD on Saturday! But first I wanted to share my Planetarium projects for the month! You can also see them in my CT gallery
First up my PL kit only spread
and for this spread I mixed the PL kit, add on, stamp add on, and Orion
I made up a few filler cards while “doodling” a week or so ago and posted them on Instagram and a few of you said you’d like them so I’m putting them up here as a free download! We all need a bit of Summer in our lives I think.
Let me know if you would like them as a digital file for a digital PL!
Trim just inside the cutting lines. Enjoy!
Love, love, love Spencer’s PL kit, add-on, AND stamp add-on! Head over to my galleries at SC to see my notes on these pages or let me know if you have any questions!
I tend to not write a lot of info, not because it’s a secret but because I don’t want to bore you with details you don’t want. So please let me know if there’s anything you wondered about!
I LOVED this month’s kits. I am so excited to have a new PL add on kit - it is loaded with embellishments so even if you’re not doing Project Life you can use this kit on anything!
Are you ready for reveal?!
I’ve gotten quite a few questions about printing for Project Life - especially Instagrams!
There are several places I order from and it kind of just depends on how quickly I need them.
I really love Persnickety prints but hope they re-vamp their uploading software sometime it can be a beast to work though. After the uploading/ordering is done though they are my favorite quality - I love the cardstock the squares print out on. My only complaint is that smaller squares I still have to trim but that’s the nature of printing they have some limits! Shipping is super fast and they print 3x4 as well!
Next I like MPIX - they are my favorite consumer printing after Persnickety. I’ve ordered some very large, mounted prints from them with great results. They just launched a phone app and now print 4”x4” prints. The interface is easy to use and they ship pretty quickly as well.
PostalPix also does 4x4, 2x2, and 6x6 as well as metal prints. I haven’t tried the metal yet although I want to! They are super easy to use and pretty fast. The prints aren’t on the thickest paper (they are pretty thin) and that’s the one thing holding me back from using them too often - otherwise the quality is good!
Costco if I need prints today I’ll order from Costco. If I have time I’ll lighten all my images up a bit before sending because they tend to print a little dark to me and choose for them NOT to color correct. Other than that the quality is usually there and for cheap
At home is my last resort. I’m ok with the color/quality of printing at home it’s just expensive and a pain in the butt to keep the ink supplied.
When printing at Costco and at home (or if I just want to print a bunch of 4x6 to save money) I have to get my Instagrams to a 4x6” canvas. I can (and sometimes do) do this in Photoshop but for time and ease I really like doing it in iPhoto. Here’s how I do it:
Select all the photos you want to transfer to a 4x6 and choose print
On this screen you can change the print size from the drop down menu or choose “custom” in print size drop down to enter your own. I do 2.5”x2.5” a lot! To get more space for trimming with a border choose the “simple border” option on the left. Keep in mind it will put as many photos as it can on one 4x6 depending on the photo sizes chosen. It will also automatically crop to size.
I choose print and a new window will pop up
You can print to your home printer from here or click on PDF on the bottom left and choose “PDF to photo” this will save all of your images as a .jpg for sending off to your printer!
Please let me know if you have any questions or favorites to add!
It’s off to Neverland! Love the soft colors this month! I got PL kit, card kit, Lost Boys, and Hook!
I’m also SO excited about the April class that was just announced
This is Me with Lexi Bridges -

Reveal is tonight! Can you believe it? This month subscribers will not only get to purchase at noon but will also get to see the design teams creations then as well! Here are my sneaks. I did 2 spreads this month - I had another started but didn’t get it finished.
Make sure you check out Catherine’s templates in the shop too. I’ll definitely be putting these to use!
I love Project Life SO much.
Front Row is now available! I got the PL Kit, Card Kit, and Big Screen add-on (which is still available!) You may also want to grab the Amy Tan Stamp and Signed Amy Tan book while they are still there!
I posted 3 spreads this month - Here’s 2013 week 1 using only the PL kit
Week 52 of 2012
And week 2 of 2013
Happy New Year everyone! A new year calls for a new Project Life Title Page!
The bag on the top right has 4 cards with each of our resolutions for the new year. We did a photobooth title page last year and decided we liked it too much to change. These are scans of actual photobooth pictures from this last year.
Have you seen the class for this month at Studio Calico?
Start your 2013 Project Life album off on the right foot with our new Studio Calico Project Life Creative Team! Each of these talented ladies has their own take on Project Life, and they will be taking you through building a spread in their album from start to finish. In addition, they’ll be sharing cover pages, tutorials, and videos that will help you fine tune your own approach to your album. Take advantage of their expertise and get ready to record your year, DAY BY DAY.
While supplies last, students will receive an exclusive 4x6 clear stamp set. This stamp set will ship free to anywhere.
All students will receive access to digital stamp brushes, as well as printables by France Wisniewski of Bananafish Studio and Tina Aszmus of Life.Love.Paper and die cut files by Kinsey Wilson and Marcy Penner of Hello Forever. You can see all of the digital files here.
My favorite has to be the stamps!
I personally am talking about memorabilia (with lots of examples)
as well as sharing a whole spread (a large one) when we took a quick trip to CA this summer. (I’m AllisonWaken on Instagram if you want to follow my sneaks there)
You can see some of the stamps here - the date, the little black banner by the yellow star, and at the top of the journaling card that says “Little”
Whose in?! You only have until the 31st to register - Class starts on the 1st!
Let me know if you have any questions about anything in particular! I’m filling in missing weeks this month and should have some brand new weeks for 2013!
This first layout is my PL kit only layout made with the PL kit and printables
Just some randomness from me today
I just bought this weekly Moleskine planner to jot down notes throughout the day for Project Life. A couple things I love about it is that it has the week #’s on it (yay!) and it has a nice pocket in the back for stashing memorabilia! Plus it’s only $7
I’m still looking for a good all around planner for my life. I use google calendar but I’d like something tangible I can write in especially for crafty/blogging deadlines! I’ve heard great things about Erin Condren
The boys declared this the best Christmas ever. (They do every year) we had a great day
I’ll be chatting at the Studio Calico reveal tonight! Will you be there?
I saw this storage piece at the Potato Barn last weekend and fell in love. I need it!
The boys went swimming at Grandma’s hotel yesterday - then they bundled up in beanies, scarves, and coats for Zoolights. Gotta love AZ!
Excited to share my first sneaks from Studio Calico Block Party! So far I’ve done 2 weeks and am working on my 2013 title page but waiting on photos for that.
Now I’m off to celebrate Christmas Eve with my family! Back later this week with the full reveal!
and I finally get to share!!
Studio Calico has a NEW Project Life Creative Team - check out who’s on it!
Besides all the other amazing ladies - ME!
I cannot tell you how honored, humbled, and crazy excited I am. Studio Calico is such an awesome community and to add Project Life to the mix is just frosting on the cake. I started Project Life this year and have learned along the way. I am so ready to dive into 2013 with both feet! Find my past Project Life posts HERE
Here are a couple sneaks of my very first PL spread using the January PL kit. I’m catching up a few weeks I missed and doing my title page for 2013 with this first kit!
SO excited to be a part of this amazing team - just look at that list of names!
